Unit Summary/Discussing the Brief

At the start of this unit I began with a lot of experimentation of techniques and ways of doing things so that I would have sufficient skills to complete the unit. I then decided that I wanted to produce some sort of gig poster as my final piece so i began researching a lot of music related things. While doing some research I found some drawings I had done previous to the unit which were based around song lyrics, these are under the post title 'Drawings 2'. I was told that my style and way of working was very similar to the artist Joakim Ojanen. I then began to study some of her work and really liked the piece 'Limo-Zine'. I liked the way that it was one long continuous drawing which all folded up to the size of a small book. So I began experimenting with different types of drawing and trying to produce long pieces of work in my style of drawing. The piece of work by Joakim has also been a big inspiration for the idea I then developed into a final piece. It is a continuous piece of work which all folds up and has a slip cover. The subject I decided for my work was music festivals, this was because there a lot of ideas and things associated with festivals which could keep the work exciting, with it being so long. This was also a good decision because all of my previous research was geared towards music so it all tied in.

Postcard

This is the original photo I took of the entrance to co-op.

I then drew a picture of the rear view of the queen using illustrator.

Then I layered the picture on top of the photograph and used the burn tool to create a shadow effect and make it look more three dimensional.

Poem Book

Above are the dark tones of a photograph of me to go on the back of my book.

 These are the light tones.

And this image shows the mid tones and the background.

These are the light tones for a photograph of a military jeep for the front cover of my book.

 These are the mid tones.

 This is the background.

And these are the dark tones.

This is the inked version of my poem done using a brush and ink. I used this technique for all of the above images.

These are the finished front and back covers of my book. I put the layers of each photograph together using photoshop and then changed the colours using the colour overlay option.

This is the finished inside of my book. I edited the inked version of my poem using photoshop.

The above three photos are of the finished book in various positions of how you would see it in everyday life.

Drawings 2

These are some fine liner drawings I did at home, some inspired by lyrics and some are just what i thought up, but i really like the style of drawing and am hoping to use it in my book.
